In our hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico, we have the
"FICG" (International Cinema Festival in Guadalajara) and this year
Sweden was invited to be the special guest country. A 2012 Academy Award
Nominee was the film that opened the festivities. Here is our review of that
movie- "KON TIKI".
The story tells us about 'Thor Heyerdahl', a man who wanted
to prove his own theory about the origins of the Polynesian Islands' natives.
As it always is when a man tries to change the history books, economical and moral
support are almost nonexistent.
Using his most creative side, positivism and charm he finds
the way to get going with the project that could prove he is not just another
fame-seeker and that his theory is a fact.
Joined by a group of men, each with different abilities, he
sets off into the "unknown" (you'll understand the quotes when you
see the movie) to rewrite history books or die trying.
Technically speaking (even though we said we'd try to
shorten the reviews, this one deserves it) the film is a cinematic beauty. You
know by seeing the poster that this is a story that takes place at sea, and for
that to happen you have to seat through the introduction to the story. In most
cases filmmakers don't invest too much time or efforts in these sequences- not in
"KON TIKI"; they spared no expense in making sure their film was
different. The narrative is interesting and develops flawlessly. Plus, the cinematography
is gorgeous!
