Again with the
films that take a bit too long to reach our Cineplex. This time it is the
remake or Sam Raimi's cult classic 'EVIL DEAD'.
Remakes are, for
the most part, the same movies we saw in years past with bigger budgets and
less imagination. 'Fede Alvarez' the director behind this project, produced by
Raimi and Bruce Campbell, did something very few other filmmakers can: Be true
to the original and throw in some new but not too radical ideas into the mix.
The story goes as
a group of friends get together to help one of them rid herself of drug addictions.
As it is to be expected, she has some serious issues dealing with her
situation, and when an incident releases an evil curse on all of them, especially
on her, she begins to see some pretty twisted things and of course everyone
thinks she is just going through withdrawal symptoms.
Soon after they
learn that there is nothing-normal going on and they have to fight for their
lives.
The film is
disgustingly beautiful to watch; the cinematography is awesome and the special
effects are a bit above average for the genre; and by the way, be ready to be
grossed out like never before.
If it wasn't
because the filmmakers wanted to show you the most gruesome images they could
possibly come up with instead of trying to scare you to death, they probably
would have made achieved a cult classic themselves.
Nonetheless, this is a scary film that
in our opinion did far better than we expected it would.
9/10 (We shouldn't
recommend you to get popcorn because this really is a very gross movie, but
that's the way our system works) Good Popcorn Fun!
*Its still showing on some theaters or maybe on the $1 ones*
