By now you've probably noticed that we like animated
features. Our recommendation for this week's "enjoy it on the comfort of
your couch" film is this French film from 2008 'PERSEPOLIS'.
Marjane Satrapi tells us her life story through her comic
book of the same name. It all begins during the 70's with a fundamentalist
Islamic government and a traditionalist family. These two prove to be the worst
combination for a young woman with dreams of leading a different and
goal-oriented life.
The narrative is quite interesting, dark and with a few
touches of greatness. The style is simple and traditional. Using monochromic
animations is a perfect way to show how during this time, life and the things
you did in Iran where either done the right way or the wrong way; no gray
areas.
This is a film that goes way beyond animation and portrays
how there are people in the world that live in much more complicated situations
and with fewer options in life than most of us. In other words, a true story of
overcoming every obstacle life puts in your path.
