Visionary filmmaker Danny Boyle is back with his
psychological thriller "TRANCE" (probably still showing in $1
theaters).
There are movies that the casual observer will recommend as
a good flick, the movie buff will use its poster as wallpaper and the "experienced
critic" will value as an art film.
Boyle's films are generally like this- you kinda like them or you love them, buy
the DVD, the Blu-ray, the special edition 3 discs set and even downloaded them
on iTunes. "TRANCE" is no exception.
The story is about 'Simon', an art keeper who after a
robbery and attack, suffers from amnesia. To get his memories back, he goes to
a hypnotherapist. She will help him relive some hidden moments buried deep
inside his head but at the cost of not being able to tell the difference
between reality and hypnosis.
This is enough to tell you what type of film you are going
to watch- a psychological thriller where reality and fantasy mesh at every
turn. Its true that this type of films are more and more common, but if you are
familiar with Boyle's work, you'll know he is going to deliver an above average
movie.
Playing the main characters are James McAvoy (WANTED, X-MEN
FIRST CLASS), Rosario Dawson (SIN CITY, UNSTOPPABLE) and Vincent Cassel
(DOBERMANN, BLACK SWAN) who, as usual, did great jobs.
The editing (the film's most important aspect) is
incredible; it builds suspense, uncertainty and paranoia since you have no idea
what is real and what isn't.
