We hope it isn't too late to bring you the review of this
film that is about to leave all $1 and non-one-dollar theaters alike:
"STOKER".
We have to make a comment before anything else- this film by
director Chan-wook Park has the necessary eerie level to disturb some people.
Mia Wasikowska (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT)
plays 'India', a beautiful, different and anti-social young girl going through
the toughest time on her life when her father, who was also her best friend,
dies in an automobile accident. Her uncle, who she hadn't known of before until
now, enters her and her mother's lives during her father's wake.
Little by little his personality will influence India to the
point of awakening new desires in her.
The uncle, 'Charles', played by Matthew Goode, is a
character full of self-confidence, scary, frightening and mysterious. We
mention this because Goode did an awesome job!
The story is as weird, as disturbing and as interesting as it
can be; thanks to an editing job the likes of 'Fight Club', the narrative is
even better.
The cinematography isn't outstanding or anything, but it
does a really good job with important details and makes barely any mistakes at
all.
The art direction is superb!
Last but not least, Park's direction was great
mainly because he keeps the same ambiance throughout the film.
Extra note- We were very surprised when we found out that the
screenplay was written by Wentworth Miller, better known as 'Michael Scofield'
from the series 'Prison Break'. It won't surprise us at all if he gets more
script writing jobs after this.
We don't expect our reviews to change your mind about any film;
we just give you our POVs. We hope that with everything we've told you about
this one, you'll consider giving it a very deserved shot.
9.5/10 Good Popcorn Fun (It was very close to being a WOW,
so much so in fact, that some of us will go see it a few more times).
NEXT TIME- STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS.
