The studio behind the "ICE AGE" saga and the
multi-talented William Joyce take us to a world within our world with their
film "EPIC".
If you are familiarized with Joyce's previous material,
you'll know that this story is well researched, worked and is full of
creativity.
In a secret and miniature world, the "Leaf-men"
are in charge of protecting 'Tara', a beautiful queen who keeps the forest they
all inhabit alive and full of color with her (interestingly enough)
supernatural powers.
At the moment we are introduced to the story, it is time for
'Tara' to pass-on her powers to a new being who will keep the forest alive and
well.
On our world, we have a scientist who studies the
possibility of finding such world with the help of motion-sensor cameras spread
through out most of the forest.
His daughter, Mary Katherine, or M-K, arrives after the
death of her mother, however she can't seem to feel a connection to her father
and decides to leave and start her own life. An incident leads her to become
part of the tiny world where she will fight to keep the forest alive, and save
our world as well.
The movie is done for children all the way. The comedy and
the adventure don't really bring much for people between 20-40 years, but do
offer enough elements to keep them entertained.
The visuals- character designs and settings- are very cool
since they are varied and are full of imagination. The 3D effect is one of the
best we've seen. The aerial and action sequences offer much depth and lots of
elements to see and admire.
The story isn't all that great, the film is average in
general terms, but is would be a mistake on our part to dismiss all the aspects
the film got right, and even exceeded at.
8.7/10 Good Popcorn Fun. See it in 3D, its really worth the
price.
