David O. Russell, director of 'Silver linings playbook', is
back as the main man for the film 'AMERICAN HUSTLE'. Enjoy our thoughts on it.

If you saw his previous film, you'll know that this
director's main thing is to direct actors and actresses. The story is important
but the interpretations are the key to a good storytelling.
With this film he shows us why quality actors are lining up
to be in his movies; he knows what he wants from his cast and gets it like few
others.
'American Hustle' tells us the story of two almost
professional scam artists 'Irving' and 'Sydney', played by Christian Bale and
Amy Adams respectively. They get in trouble when FBI agent 'Richie DiMaso',
played by Bradley Cooper, "recruits" them (for lack of a better word)
to the Bureau to become rats of the law.
Faced with the option of avoiding jail time by simply
helping and agent is too much for the scam artists so they decide to go for it.
The plot thickens when DiMaso doesn't know when to say
"enough" and goes after more than other scammers.
Analysis and opinion:
Characters and more characters. Scam artists, politicians,
mobsters, love and work partners. Each and every one of these interpretations
make for a memorable film.
The story is predictable but thanks to interesting dialogues
and situations it wasn't actually necessary for the film to be unpredictable or
have a shocking ending.
The story and how they get from point A to point B is what
make it worth the watch.
There are many technical details that are worth mentioning,
specially the cinematography and the art direction (we thing the editing wasn't
the best, the film feels a bit too long). There is not a single moment where
you feel out of time. The story takes place in the disco era and everything
from the costume design to the color temperature in the photography are typical
of the time and very well made.
We pointed out the performances as the best part of the film
and we were not kidding. The main characters are perfectly portrayed. Christian
Bale comes as close to perfection as possible, Amy Adams steals many of the
sequences where she is in, Bradley Cooper did a fantastic job and Jennifer
Lawrence shows us she is not a one-hit-wonder. She could very well take her
second Academy Award in March (we thing the other actors/actresses have too
much competition to win but who knows...).
*ADDED NOTE*
The soundtrack is unbelievable! It reaches Quentin Tarantino
heights in our opinion. AWESOME!
This is a good flick with some minor details that could have
been better but deffinetly worth watching.
9/10 GOOD POPCORN FUN!
