Review: THE WAY WAY BACK

A film of the so-called "coming of age" genre just like 'The perks of being a wallflower' with much more comedy and a weirder romantic story. Enjoy our review of 'THE WAY WAY BACK'.

By Staff
The story tells us about 'Duncan', a socially inept young man going through the pain of seeing his mother dating a new boyfriend, 'Trent', that also makes him feel miserable at every turn. The only reason why he's trying to get along with him is that he promised his mother he would.
Things get even tougher for him when they all go to Trent's beach house for the summer. There he will meet the neighbor's daughter, the manager and entire staff or a local water park, and learn that the only thing that matters in life is to live smiling, something he doesn't get to do much of at home.

We'd love nothing more than to tell you more about the story but there are so many things happening at all times, and they all have something to do with the ending, that we would spoil you with the conclusion; as you know, we don't like to spoil movies for you.

Is it a drama, a comedy, an adventure, a romance? The truth is we couldn't find an actual genre for the entire film. It suffers from being unable to define itself as something more than coming-of-age story. There are some depressive moments, some romantic ones, some real funny bits and everything else you can think of. If the makers of the film would've taken just a bit more time defining the narrative the end result could have been more interesting. It isn't so; there is neither tempo nor rhythm the audience can adapt to.

Is it worth watching? It actually is; it has enough things and details to entertain the audience. Our score system asks for a minimum of 6 out of 10 for us to say it is worth the ticket price. If the film is a 5 or lower then we recommend you to rent it or watch on a discount theater. If this "genre" isn't your cup of tea, then you are better off watching it later on, but if you do like these type of movies then go ahead and pay for the full-price ticket.

6/10 WORTH THE TICKET PRICE.
