Another horror film-classic has its own remake, awaited by
many, feared by many more. This is our review of 'CARRIE'.

The story is the same or as close as it can get from the
1976 version. The telekinesis, the bulling, the romance and the main
character's strangeness are practically the same.
For those who didn't see the original film, the story tells
us about 'Carrie White', this time played by Chloë Grace Moretz. She is a 17
year-old girl with telekinesis powers who is bullied by pretty much every other
schoolmate and the reason her mother believes hell is a real place. When her
classmate 'Chris' is expelled from going to prom for something she did to her,
she plans revenge on Carrie in the form of dumping pig's blood on her prom
dress. Hurt and humiliate a young woman with supernatural powers will prove to
be one of her and the rest of her schoolmates' worst mistakes.
Analysis and opinion:
It doesn't matter how many more special effects you throw at
it, or how popular the actress playing the main roll is, nor how much you stick
to the original material if you don't know how to bring it all together; the
end result will not be an instant classic.
The flick isn't entirely bad, it does in fact have some
interesting things and nice moments but it fails in the overall perspective and
leaves you thinking it could've been better.
The key moment in the story is well developed. You feel the
tension and expectation growing but when it finally arrives, it is good but not
immortal like the original one, then the massacre that everyone wants to see is
done with acceptable special effects but with a disappointing and badly
directed performance by Chloë. Apparently Kimberly Pierce, the film's director,
ran out of ideas and just asked her to look angry and keep her arms spread
thinking it would all work out with some fine editing. Big mistake. It takes
much more to create an instant classic.
We're not gonna sugarcoat it- CARRIE fails in many ways and
only nails a few ones.
