Review: TURBO

Going up against giants like 'Monsters University' and 'Despicable Me 2' cannot be an easy task. If this film doesn't break any box office numbers it wouldn't be a huge surprise. People who give it a chance not recommending it would be, however. This is our review of 'TURBO'.

By Edgar Perez
I'm not going to take much of your time. This film has a very specific target audience; the story tells us about a snail that dreams of becoming a speedster and by a bizarre accident he acquires supernatural powers and becomes the fastest snail in the world.

You can see right away that this movie knows what it is- fantasy and adventure for little ones and lovers of animation in cinema.
During pre-production the makers asked themselves basic and simple questions- What can we do with the story? How can we make it entertaining for parents? How far can we stretch the limits between fun and over-the-top?
They were all very well answered. The movie is made for kids with silly jokes, lots of details that go beyond reality in its own world and, even then, it manages to entertain the audience, whatever their age.

The animation is pure cartoonish but done at an excellent level. The 3D it offers is unbelievable; some sequences might make you a little dizzy because of their depth. The characters are quite colorful and even though they seem a bit too much, little by little the why's and the how's give you a better explanation of how they came to be.

This flick is a very nice surprise and quite a good option to spend some fun time at the movies.
8.7/10 Good Popcorn Fun.
