Kevin,
Tim, Stuart, Jerry, Billy and hundreds of other minions are back to provide us
with a new dose of fun and comedy. Oh right, the main character Gru is back
also. This is our review of DESPICABLE ME 2.
By Denisse Ayala.
This time around the adventure involves a new aspect in
Gru's life- love.
His little girls Margo, Edith and Agnes want him to start
dating so that one day they can have a mom in their home. The best opportunity
to make it all happen presents itself when Lucy, an Anti-Villain League agent,
comes into their lives and assigns Gru with a mission to save the world.
The minions (probably the biggest reason people flocked
theaters this past weekend) have their own little sub-plot going on; a
mysterious villain is capturing them one by one.
Saving the world, getting his charming yellow robots back
and conquering the woman who recently stole his heart are all things Gru will
have to do before it is too late.
Analysis:
The story and the characters from the previous film are all
back and they are as charismatically adorable as ever.
From the new faces, AVL agent Lucy pops-up as the most
interesting and fun. The villain didn't have much of a presence, but I think
that was a good thing because it didn't distract from the two main stories thus
allowing them to develop and make for a smoother and easier-to-follow film for
all audiences.
The animation's style was cartoonish and even though it
wasn't bad, after seeing 'Monsters University' I wished it'd been better. The
3D was al ‘right but I don't think its worth the added ticket cost.
Opinion:
The movie offers lots of very fun moments for kids
especially when the minions are onscreen. Parents and 15+ viewers will also
enjoy it but due to a weak storyline they might hope for something better at
times.
Added note- without the minions there wouldn't be much to
watch; they make the movie- Gru and the remaining characters and plotlines are fun but don't offer the same level of entertainment. :P
This is a movie made for kids and people looking for a good
time at the movies.
8/10 Worth the Ticket Price.
