It isn't very common for the 'Academy' to nominate a comedy
in the 'Best Picture' category, much less a dark comedy. After seeing
"SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK" we understand why it did.
David O. Russell, filmmaker of such films as 'The Fighter'
and 'I Heart Huckabees', brings us a top-notch film. The story's style is pure
dark comedy- heavy, entertaining and relatable.
It all begins when 'Pat', a married man, leaves a mental
hospital earlier than anticipated because his mom believes he is ready to get
back into society.
'Pat' (played by 'Bradley Cooper, or 'Phil' from "THE
HANGOVER" movies) went into the loony bin because of a violent incident
related with his wife 'Nikki'. Now that he is free, the only thing in his mind
is getting her back regardless of how. Unfortunately, his departure from the
hospital was a bit premature and his mission gets a little more complicated
than he had expected.
A short time after he meets 'Tiffany', a young and
attractive woman whose husband died not too long ago, hence she is going
through some rough times herself.
'Tiffany', played by the talented 'Jennifer Lawrence'
('X-Men First Class', 'The Hunger games'), thinks that she has finally
found in 'Pat' someone with problems, though different, as troubling as her own
and she decides to start a friendship with him.
What does the movie offer once the main characters take
center stage? Incredibly creative dialogue, outrageous behavior and blackmail
that knows no shame. In other words- a different film, fresh, funny and interesting.
