Review: Amour

Seeing "Academy Awards 'Best Foreign Film' and 'Best Picture' Nominee" practically guarantees people's interest... as well as winning on at least the foreign film category.

Filmmaker Michael Haneke brings us his new film in which he tells us the story of a pair of old-age lovebirds; a couple as adorable as mundane. Everything begins as nature and old age start to suffocate 'Anne' (played by also Academy Award Nominee- Emmanuelle Riva), robbing her of her capacity to be independent little by little.

'Georges' played by Jean-Louis Trintignant does everything in his power to help his beloved wife make it through the most difficult time of both their lives. In our opinion, he deserved a nomination as well, because he did an unbelievable job!

With scenes representative of the desperation the characters are going through, in his very unique style, Haneke lets the actors themselves, as well as the situations happening, tell the story with such realism that in some sequences where 'Anne's' physical and 'Georges's' psychological deterioration is hard to watch.

This is a TYPICAL European film- long, with very dramatic sequences and (sorry to tell you a little about the ending) a "shocking" and hard-to-understand ending.

Great film is you like strictly artistic cinema, but very disappointing if you are hoping for something different to what European countries have us accustomed to.

5/10 Discount Theater or Rental.
