A clear and almost sure bet for award season has finally
made it to Mexican theaters. This is our review of 'CAPTAIN PHILLIPS'.

There was a time back in the 1990's when Tom Hanks was
synonymous with "amazing". The past decade he gave us some memorable
performances but nothing like what he had us accustomed to.
In his first collaboration with director Paul Greengrass, he
shows that when he is directed the right way and the material to work with has
enough juice to squeeze, he can still be one of the best.
This film tells us the real-life story of Captain Richard
Phillips how was taken hostage by a group of Somali pirates back in 2009. There
is nothing else to describe the film. Except- courage, suspense,
claustrophobia, military tactics, desperation, angst and precision in
storytelling. Plus, superb performances by Hanks and Barkhad Abdi as 'Muse'.
Greengrass, just like he did in 'United 93', tells us a
story with incredible detail. We all know how the film will end and he uses
this to his advantage. The why, how and who are beautifully shot with up-close
and personal camera angles and the editing is just like a good novel that you
cannot put down.
We don't know if we've been choosing a bit better movies as
of late or if cinema is just getting better and delivering quality material
all-around. Giving high grades to a lot of films can diminish the importance of
our grading system, but denying them could too. Therefore...
