Review: SNITCH

Action actors doing comedy, or comedy ones doing dramas, has become more and more often and sometimes the results are quite acceptable. Now is the turn for Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson with his latest film "SNITCH".

From now on if a review doesn't include a "Wednesday", "couch", or special-day tag on the title, then please assume it is yet another film that made it to Mexican movie theaters a few months late.

There are many movies and television series that tell us stories about the world of drugs and it’s various aspects: Transport, consumption/demand, addictions, connections with higher powers, and even production.

"SNITCH", tells us what this film is going to be about, and we're not just referring to the title, but to the film's first sequence.

'Jason Collins' is a young man that makes the terrible decision to help his best friend with a package full of drugs. He gets arrested for this (don't worry it is no spoiler, this happens within the first 5 minutes) and is judged under a new system of law enforcement against drug dealing.  Jason's father, 'John Matthews', played by 'The Rock', knows he has to do anything and everything in his power to help his son avoid many years in prison...

The film is produced by Dwayne Johnson himself, which would cause most of us to think that this is an action, bravery, heroism-filled movie; in fact it is, but not in the day you'd assume. Instead of telling us a typical Hollywood film, the director tells us a series of events that will lead the protagonist into believable situations full of tension and anguish.

The narrative is supreme; it keeps building suspense and never stops. The photography is well worked and helps to increase the emotion in most sequences.

Johnson's interpretation is his best, or at least one of his finest.
We'd like to make a special mention to Jon Bernthal and his portrayal of 'Daniel James' who brought an added level or reality to the story and a supporting character worthy of remembrance.

This film has already left theaters in the U.S. and other International Markets (or probably just about to get to some), but it is worth to look for it and give it a chance; to us, it was a pleasant surprise.

9/10 Good Popcorn Fun.
