We had planned on doing the review for this film when it
came out on DVD but, as incredible as it may be, it’s hanging on and its still
playing in Mexican theaters. It is out on DVD in the U.S. already, however. Here is our
review of the documentary film 'MEA MAXIMA CULPA'.
By Staff
As we said in our intro, this film is a documentary film and
if you don't know why we are surprised it is still playing in theaters down
here in Mexico, it's because it takes on the pedophilia cases against the
Catholic Church; pretty much a blasphemy for all Catholics here.
The film begins with the first known case that came out of a
school for deaf children and takes us all the way to the Vatican itself.
With detailed and well-researched information, every
sequence introduces the audience into a world that many are unaware of or,
maybe, choose to ignore.
The details of each story and/or case talked about in the
movie have a feeling that makes you think you are watching a horror film.
Alex Gibney, the documentary's director, provides us with
facts that will make any non-Catholic uncomfortable and Catholics scared and
angry even.
We should warn you: when you watch this film, have a very
open mind since everything shown is of a very sensitive topic and the
explanations of what happened is told by the accusers themselves.
