Review: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

A man's real battle begins. These are our thoughts and review of 'THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2'.

By Staff
Lets get to it right away cause there's a lot of things to talk about.
The story tells us about Peter Parker and his never-ending struggle with himself and his mission of helping the less fortunate whilst leaving a normal teenager's life and a romantic relationship with Gwen Stacy.
New York's criminals don't make things easier for him- they do everything and are creative at their doings.
Things with Gwen are as troublesome as any relationship between an early twenties couple.
Finding out the truth about what happened with his parents troubles him and to makes thing worse, he sees Gwen's father, who died in the first film, everywhere and at all times reminding him to leave her alone.

When 'Max Dillon', played by Jamie Foxx, suffers an accident in Oscorp's offices, he transforms into 'Electro', a villain with energy/electricity superpowers who, for some reason, hates Spider-Man and swears to destroy him.
Peter's best friend, 'Harry Osborn', played by Dane DeHaan, comes back after being sent to away to a boarding school by his father some years earlier, and he is deadly ill. He investigates about the company's lab studies and deduces that Spider-Man has all the advantages from the super spiders, so he asks Peter to ask Spider-Man to give him some of his blood to save his life.
When Spider-Man says no, for Harry's own sake, he declares war on him and swears vengeance.

Analysis and opinion:
We're going to get ahead in the review a little bit before you think this is a witch hunt- the movie has some great moments.
Andrew Garfield's performance as Spider-Man was awesome! In the first film we could tell he wasn't comfortable with the role, but how he made the character his. He's funny, charismatic and never gives up. As Peter Parker, he's still an unsecure of himself young man who struggles with everyday decisions.
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy is still one of the saga's best elements. She's not as good as she was in the first film, but does a pretty darn good job anyhow.

The sequences with Spider-Man swinging around New York City are truly AMAZING and exciting. The first one is innovative, well done and just COOL.

The special effects are quite acceptable, with the exception of the villains, which are a bit over-the-top and don't really come across as realistic.

The cinematography is pretty good as well, although, in the fight sequences between Spider-Man and Electro it suffers a bit from the over-the-top SFX.

The film's down side:
Marc Webb.
The director made the SAME GHASTLY MISTAKES he did in the first film.
He starts off with a very entertaining and stylish sequence. But when he gets into the plot he loses ALL the momentum gained and the movie becomes tedious, with overused dialogues and unimportant subplots for the main story, which by the way, is barely above interesting.
His narrative is terrible. TERRIBLE. Last time the last 30 minutes were amazing, full of action and excitement. He does the same thing this time but it just doesn't work as well, however.

Last but not least -
We're sorry if this is consider a SPOILER but Electro was NEVER a real threat and thus the final battle between him and Spider-Man is "cool" but nothing we haven't seen before.

Maybe we are the only ones that think this, but knowing Webb will be at the helm for at least the next Spider-Man movie, make us not care much about it at all.

Good elements. Very bad elements.
To score it we have to make an exception to our regular way of doing it:
If you are going to see it in 3D, it's worth the ticket price, if not, then wait for Discount Theater or rental.

No 3D - 4.5 DISCOUNT THEATER OR RENTAL.

3D - 6.0 WORTH THE TICKET PRICE.
